Whare Kaimahi - Youth Residence Worker

Job Description:

We are seeking several compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Whare Kaimahi - Residence Workers. In this role, you will provide support and guidance to youth residing in a residential home setting. Your primary responsibility will be to create a safe and nurturing environment for the youth while assisting them in their personal development and growth

Position Overview:

As a Whare Kaimahi, you will play a crucial role in providing care, guidance, and support to residents. Your primary responsibility will be to promote their overall well-being, personal development, and independence. You will work closely with a team of dedicated professionals to create a positive and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster positive relationships with residents and provide emotional support.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized care plans.
  • Support residents in daily living activities, such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household chores.
  • Organize and participate in recreational and educational activities.
  • Encourage and facilitate the development of life skills, including communication, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain a safe and secure living environment.
  • Document observations, incidents, and progress notes accurately and timely.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, such as families, social workers, and healthcare professionals.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with young people with high needs is preferred but not essential. Training is provided.
  • A diploma or degree in social work, psychology, youth work, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping young people.
  • First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid full driver's license.
